It seems like everyone and their mom's are a coach or a yoga instructor, a vegan or meditator, a holistic nutritionist or an entrepreneur, a Marie Forleo or a Danielle Laporte.
And while I wholeheartedly believe in the power of healing and being the BOSS of your own life, I know that many people are jumping on the 'what's trending' in spirituality right now as a means to make some cash.
There is nothing wrong with making cash.
There is however something wrong with manipulating a brand into a category that's hot right now and targeting people who are just starting on their spiritual path.
Every second advertisement in my feed is on how to become a the next six-figure IT coach in spirituality and well-being. Excuse me while I call bull-shit.
There is no person out there in the world that is more of an expert on you than you.
This doesn't mean that we don't need coaches, we do, especially because we are masters at getting in our own way if it means we have to be held accountable to real change. This doesn't mean that we shouldn't take our YTT or eat meat for ethical reasons, nor does it mean that everyone is lying to you, they're not. This means we need to get really good at trusting our gut and the only way to get good at trusting ourselves is to go inward.
I invite you to close your eyes.
As we close our eyes to the outer world, we begin to open our inner eye to our internal landscape. Begin to notice your breath.
Take a few deep breaths in and out. On the third exhale, release an audible sigh, "Aaaahhhhhh."
Keep breathing and place your hand over your heart. Just notice your breaths, be fully inside your body. If your mind wanders, it OK, just come back to your breath.
I want you to repeat in your mind the word NO. Say it as many times as needed until your body gives you a location of where NO lives. Keep saying it until you've found it.
I invite you to repeat the word MAYBE. Say MAYBE until you isolate its location in your body.
Now say YES until you discover where yes lives inside of the temple that is You. Where do you light up?
Practice this exercise as many times as you like until you feel your YES's, NO's and MAYBE's.
THIS is how you decide who is the right coach or yoga teacher trainer; this is how you know if eating meat is what your body needs; this is how you know if quitting your job or taking a new course in school is right for you at this time.
Whatever you want to do, you are so much more than capable of achieving it and we ALL need support on our journey, but YOU are the expert on who you support, who is being authentic and what direction you should take.
Your body is not the enemy, it's your ally and it will not lead you astray if you listen.
*** side note, Marie Forleo and Danielle Laporte are bad ass chicas whom I trust and admire and I'm in no way suggesting otherwise.
